MALANG CITY

A Hidden Heaven: Segara Anakan, Malang

SEMPU Island is located in Malang, east Java, Indonesia. To reach this island, you need to have a trip for about 69 km long to the south away from the downtown, Malang. It will take about 3 hours trip to the Sendangbiru beach (Pantai Sendangbiru), your first destination before you move on to the island.

 Before going to the Island, I need to inform you that Sempu Island is intended to those who will do an observation or such a research I don't know for sure. So that, everyone is not allowed to damage or take anything from the island. OK! let's go ahead.

Sendangbiru Beach also offers you a good view and a boat trip

Sendangbiru beach also has an amusing view. Look at the picture above! Just right in front of you is Sempu Island. Sempu Island and Sendangbiru beach is separated by a small strait. You have to rent a boat to reach the island’s bay. It will take 15 minutes trip from Sendangbiru to the island's bay. And don’t forget to arrange your return time with the boat’s owner. You will spend Rp. 100.000,- for renting the boat.

Here we go!  after riding a boat for 15 minutes, You get to the entrance to the Sempu Island. OH, I almost forget to show you that our destination will be a small lake (lagoon), called Segara Anakan. So, this is the picture of the entrance:

Then, you will start your journey to Segara Anakan from this path. (see picture below) Are you ready for this?? ^_^

You have to take 45 minutes walking started from this path to the destination. It will be very tiring journey for you who are not used to having walking trip like this. Watch your steps because the path is not as good as you think! Sempu Island is also a forest, so that You have to pay attention on what you are doing.

Hmm, there are also some things you should pay attention on while you are in the Island:

• Keep the island clean and take your rubbish with you on your way back
• Be careful with wild monkeys, sometimes it takes your meal
• Don’t damage the trees or anything in the Island
• Don’t swim to the rock’s hole while waves hit from the outside. It is very dangerous because the rock is so sharp. it can hurt your feet.

Besides, you have to prepare your equipment if you want to have a campfire in Segara Anakan:

• Bring your own drinking water and food. No seller and no freshwater inside the island
• Ask for permission in BKSDA office in Surabaya or Jember. But sometimes people only ask to the officer near Sendang Biru
• Bring your camera to capture awesome pictures
• Use a tracking sandal or shoes
• Bring your cell phone to communicate with your friends and boat’s owner (you will only find signal in the bay and lagoon)
• No electricity, so bring your flashlight, extended charger or double battery depend on your length of stay
• Bring your camping stuff (sleeping bag, mattress, tent)
• Sun block? Well if you feel it is important for having your skin protected, then bring it!
