IJEN CRATER

Indonesia is a rich for its volcano. I have already showed you one of it in my previous blog, that is Mount Bromo; and now I have another one. This is Mount Ijen or many people are familiar with another name of it, that is Kawah Ijen (kawah = crater; Ijen crater). This mountain becomes the exotic volcano in East Java, as Mount Bromo and Semeru does.

Mount Ijen is located in east Java, in Kawasan Wisata Kawah Ijen atau Cagar Alam Taman Wisata Ijen that is positioned in subdistrict Licin, district Banyuwangi and subdistrict Klobang, district Bondowoso. So, we can say that this mountain is located at the border between two districts (Bondowoso and banyuwangi).

The famous spot visited by most people here is the crater. Ijen crater is at the altitude of 2.368 above sea level. you can see the crater in the middle of huge caldera. The width of the caldera is about 20 km. Meanwhile, the carter is only about 960 m x 600 m wide and 200 m deep.

Ijen crater is filled with water which is very acid.  This nominated Ijen Crater as the most acidic crater. Do you know how much the degree of acidity (pH) of this crater is?? Don't be surprised, guys to see the answer! hehe... This crater has very strong degree of acidity which is almost approaching zero score. This number can dissolve the human body very fast. Moreover, the average temperature at the crater reaching 200 oC. So, be careful if you come to this crater. Don't you try to even touch the water!

Well, actually it is not as scary as you think, Guys. This crater, otherwise, offers a very beautiful scene. What is that? let's check it out!

First,You can see the beauty of Ijen crater. This crater is in a form of a wide lake and has turquoise color. It also produces amazing fog and smoke. All of those are from the crater which contains a lot of sulfur. You can also find another volcano which is called mount Merapi. It is located next to mount crater. it has very beautiful view.

The best moment for most tourists is at 05.000 - 06.00 in the morning. Many of them come to the peak of the mountain, in the area of the crater, to see the sunrise. It offers a beautiful scenery ever.To get to the place, you have to walk along the path and between the calderas. Don't forget to bring  your maskers to protect your nose from sulfur mist which is sometimes dangerous.

The best time for hikers to go is in July till September because it is dry season. when you come in rainy season, it could be dangerous as the path will be very slippery.
